Compressing Our Music To Death?

I saved this article back in December and only got around to reading it today.

I'm very much interested in the claim that after listening to a "whole album of this highly compressed music, your ear is fatigued." Based on some of my own experiences of late, I'm thinking it might not be too far off the mark.

So what do you think? Has compression given us a huge portable library of music that is draining more than entertaining?
